The Art of Estimating

Are you struggling with estimating?

Unable to Win Contracts?

Getting the work, but not making a profit?

After decades of working with some of the most successful remodelers in the business, we have learned that unless your estimate is within a few percentage points there is very little that production can do to make up the difference, so an accurate estimate is CRITICAL to your success.

Whether you are an owner that handles the estimates or the estimator for a company, you will find a gold mine of information in this Masterclass, led by Tim Faller.

This two-day, intensive class will be an interactive experience for the person responsible for estimating at your business. The seminar portion will cover the purpose of estimating, the challenges we face, and why accurate estimating can be so difficult.

You will hear about the importance of “accurate discovery,” so that all aspects of the job are covered, as well as learning practical “how-to’s” for creating a strong, solid estimate.

The team from Forward Design Build Remodel in Ann Arbor, MI and the estimator from Case Architects & Remodelers in Bethesda, MD will also be sharing how they are able to create estimates that create profit.

In addition, you will learn about the pitfalls of estimating allowances, change orders, and Time & Materials (T&M) work. Included in this class will be a high-level look at some of the estimating software that is currently available.

The interactive sections will get the class participants sharing their secrets of what works for them. These sessions are focused on the discovery phase and actual estimating.

The “coup de grace” will be our world-famous Mastermind experience, where each participant gets to place their topic in front of their peers and get helpful feedback.

You’ll Come Away With:

  • What other companies are doing that helps them get the estimate right from the initial call to the contract.
  • A better understanding of “Garbage In/Garbage Out,” or how to collect the right information so the estimate is accurate.
  • The characteristics of an effective estimating database.
  • What to look for in a software package, along with a high-level look at some that are available now.
  • The knowledge of how estimating allowances and change orders differ from the main estimate.
  • A look at some of the major points where estimates go off track (like having an inaccurate labor burden).

While this course is built for your production team, it is also appropriate for their managers and the business owner as well. It’s time to get the whole company thinking about estimating and driving profit!

As with all of our Courses and Masterclasses, this course qualifies for NARI continuing education credits.

I thought the class was fantastic! I feel as though R/A not only gives people the metrics, techniques, and tactics that professional remodelers aim for and use to run their businesses, most importantly – R/A taught me how to think, analyze and attack! I find myself always trying to solve problems the R/A way. It's a state of mind!”
