The Art of Estimating

$1,200.00

After working with some of the most successful remodelers in the business, we’ve learned that if your estimate isn’t accurate, production has very little room to make up the difference. In short, a precise estimate is CRITICAL to your success.

Whether you’re an owner who manages the estimates or the company’s dedicated estimator, you’ll find a gold mine of information in this Masterclass.

This Masterclass runs as three, three-hour sessions, blending “classroom” lessons with interactive breakouts. Across these sessions, we’ll explore the purpose and challenges of estimating and why hitting the mark is so difficult.

You will learn about “accurate discovery”—ensuring every aspect of the job is accounted for—and practical “how-to’s” for crafting strong, solid estimates.

We’ll discuss the pitfalls of allowances, change orders, and Time & Materials (T&M) work. We’ll also provide a high-level look at a variety of estimating software options currently on the market.

Our interactive segments will give you the chance to share best practices and learn from fellow participants, focusing on both the discovery phase and real-world estimating scenarios.

On the final day, the last hour will be dedicated to “Burning Issues,” where you’ll be able to present your most pressing challenges to the group and receive valuable feedback in our world-famous Mastermind experience.

You’ll Come Away With:

  • Insight into what successful companies do to get the estimate right, from the initial call through to the contract.
  • A clearer understanding of how the quality of the information collected—through a collaborative effort—directly influences the accuracy and reliability of your estimates.
  • An understanding of the key characteristics of using historical data and assemblies.
  • Guidelines for navigating the broader technology landscape—evaluating a range of software options and digital tools to support more accurate and efficient estimating.
  • How to estimate allowances and change orders and how they may differ from your main estimate.
  • A look at common points where estimates fail—such as an inaccurate labor burden—and how to avoid them.

Although this course is designed with your production team in mind, it’s also appropriate for their managers and the business owner. Now is the time to get your whole company aligned around effective estimating to drive profit!

I thought the class was fantastic! I feel as though R/A not only gives people the metrics, techniques, and tactics that professional remodelers aim for and use to run their businesses, most importantly – R/A taught me how to think, analyze and attack! I find myself always trying to solve problems the R/A way. It's a state of mind!”

Production Consultant

I am a Production Consultant with Remodelers Advantage. I started as a bags-on career carpenter and evolved into management, first as a Lead Carpenter and then learning production management through site supervision, project management, sales, and estimating. My most recent experience has allowed me the great opportunity to work with other companies as a consultant, share my experience, and be their resource to help make their processes and systems better. I am elated by the fact that I wake up every day and think about ways to make this already fulfilling industry better for others, especially in production, project management, and estimating. I enjoy learning about emerging technologies for the residential construction world, as well as being up to date in building science and construction best practices.
